About Interpol
From Wikipedia:
Interpol is an American indie rock band, formed in 1998. The members of the band are Paul Banks (vocals, rhythm guitar), Daniel Kessler (lead guitar, back vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass), and Sam Fogarino (drums). Their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights was critically acclaimed, while the follow-up, Antics, has been both a critical and commercial success.
The band's sound is a mix of bass throb and choppy, sparse guitar, drawing constant comparisons to post-punk bands Joy Division, The Chameleons and Kitchens of Distinction. Both Antics and Turn on the Bright Lights were recorded at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

From Matador's Website:
Interpol. A name generally associated with international espionage, covert operations, and distant ports of call. Yet since Interpol, the band, swept up listeners with their 2002 Matador debut 'Turn On The Bright Lights,' the moniker has gained new associations as well. It still carries global recognition. For the past two years, one could hardly open a magazine, turn on a radio or television, or step into a nightclub, without hearing Interpol's dark, gripping songs or seeing their countenances. Despite this high level of media exposure, the quartet never lost the tension and complexity that won them acclaim worldwide.

From Amazon.com:
Interpol are often accused of paying more attention to their haircuts than music. But good grooming habits don't always equate hollow souls. The New York band's sophomore album revisits the dark themes of its classic debut, Turn On The Bright Lights, drawing further inspiration from the likes of Joy Division and early Duran Duran. The band sounds more energetic in places ("C'Mere") and infinitely more depressed in others ("Next Exit"). The best songs, however, such as "Evil" and "Slow Hands," not only strike just the right balance but sound totally emotional, mournful, debauched, and ultimately, inevitably life-affirming.

From Amazon.com:
Interpol create literate, atmospheric, moody, trashy post-punk music that recalls '80s faves the Psychedelic Furs. And this is definitely a good thing. While most young bands are content to rhyme "make it" with "fake it," Interpol pens melodramatic tales of tortured and tortuous urban relationships that are truly refreshing. Like their peers the Strokes, they're bright, sophisticated, and meticulous enough to build stirring soundscapes. Turn On the Bright Lights is a must for anyone who missed Echo & the Bunnymen, the Furs, and Joy Division the first time around.
